Carter Check - I’m a Medical Ethicist with the Department of Veteran Affairs that specializes in suicide and moral injury care for Veterans.
I help save Veteran lives and train others to do the same.
I work with Integrative Mental Health (IMH) and the Moral Injury Network (MIN) which is a national initiative to help address moral injury (which is an upstream suicide prevention) and suicidality with our nations Veterans, in which I’ve published a theory and workbook to help companion them through their traumatic experiences, specifically the loss associated with their experience to assist in identifying protective factors, foster resiliency, and create greater meaning-making toward co-regulation.
(Co-regulation takes place when Veterans start to manage their symptoms, instead of being managed by them.)
I work on an national integrative suicide prevention team and train Chaplains nationally to do the same.
When I encounter Veterans…With courage; I run into the places that other people might run away from. I hold space for the difficult, the disappointed, the devastated, the life altered. And when it’s time, I look with them towards a hopeful future.
I am a Suicide Specialist, a Chaplain by degree. I am here to care!
